This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Glenn Larkin had a successful business career as the chief financial officer at one of Utah's finest corporations. When he retired, he and his wife, Karen, discussed what they wanted to do with the time now available to them. Karen had always thought about using her skill and interest in interior design. She had gained a reputation with family and friends for having a flair for it.

Glenn saw an advertisement one day in The Davis County Clipper that provided them a solution: A woman was interested in selling part of her furniture business. Glenn and Karen became partners to purchase the business and shortly after became the sole owners.

Today, Noble House Furniture and Design in Bountiful is thriving and has gained wide recognition along the Wasatch Front. Glenn and Karen moved into their current 6,000 square foot store about three years ago. I walked through the facility and was impressed with the furniture displays, the beautiful accent and accessory pieces and the wall décor and art pieces. The store offers complete window treatments and bedding pieces.

Interior design and consultation is an important aspect of the business. Karen is the lead designer, but she works closely with the design staff, which travels to a client's home to exchange design suggestions and ideas.

Noble House Furniture and Design is very much a family business; three of the Larkin daughters are on the company's board of directors and bring a unique skill set to the operation. One specializes in marketing, another on informational technology and another is an attorney who focuses on legal matters. They are all active in the business, and Glenn and Karen told me that someday their daughters will own and operate Noble House.

I couldn't resist commenting on the company's regal-sounding name. Karen explained that she and Glenn chose it partially because Noble is Glenn's middle name.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
