GLOUCESTER, England, Nov 22, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Scottish rockers the Cocteau Twins are set to offer a musical interpretation of playwright William Shakespeare's poems.
The "Milk and Kisses" rock band is one of several groups that will provide musical accompaniment to readings of Shakespearean sonnets at Britain's Courtyard Theatre, The Independent reported.
The cross-media production, entitled "Nothing Like the Sun," is set to launch in the British town of Stratford-upon-Avon beginning Feb. 24, before expanding across the United Kingdom in March.
The musical production is part of the Complete Works festival, an international Shakespearean celebration, and will feature other guest composers such as Mercury Music Prize-winners Antony and the Johnsons.
"They will be very identifiable from their styles but we must remember they are writing for a classical ensemble," Opera North curator Dominic Gray told the paper. "There has been a crossover of serious musicians who work at the pop end to also work at the classical end."
