LATEST: FAITH HILL tracked CARRIE UNDERWOOD down backstage at the Country Music Association Awards earlier this month (NOV06) to make sure she wasn't upset when she saw footage of the CRY singer's reaction to her Best Female Artist win.

Hill, who lost out to the JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL singer in the category, appeared to be upset and angry about Underwood's win but has since insisted she was joking.

Now, Underwood reveals Hill quickly realised her reaction on camera may be misconstrued and decided to explain herself before the incident turned into a scandal, which it did the following day.

Underwood explains, "If I were sitting at home I totally would have got the joke.

"She told me that night and wanted to set it straight right then and there and let me know that she was just kidding and it was just a joke gone bad and she was really sorry for doing anything that might have seemed inappropriate."

Underwood insists she was more upset by the backlash aimed at Hill: "Faith is such a sweet person that she shouldn't get dumped on for that." (KL/WNVACC/MEH)
