The Utah Food Bank has set a lofty goal for its annual holiday food drive. During the next few weeks, it hopes to bring in some two million pounds of food.
With the help of the generous people of Utah, the goal is attainable.
Over the years, the Utah Food Bank with its statewide network of pantries has done a remarkable job of feeding the hungry. The need, though, is never ending. It is why KSL continues to support the Food Bank's constant efforts to solicit generous donations from throughout the state.
Each month, the Food Bank responds on average to 116,000 requests for emergency food assistance. Most often, the requests come from those who are employed, married, parents, and in temporary financial need. The food offered provides needy families a temporary boost until things get back on track.
Currently, the Food Bank is asking for Thanksgiving turkeys - 24,000 of them - so that needy families can enjoy a holiday meal. Beyond that, though, there is always need for canned fruits and vegetables; meats and stews; pasta and beans; and baby food and formula.
KSL encourages the people of Utah to respond generously, as they always seem to do, to this latest plea for food. Help once again to assure that the ongoing need is met.
