(ST. GEORGE, Utah -- May 15, 2009) Third-seeded Salt Lake CC rode a strong pitching performance from Jordyn McDonald, coupled with a pair of big offensive innings, as the Bruins posted a 5-1 win over #11-seed Seminole State CC in a winner's bracket quarterfinal game at the 2009 NJCAA National Championship tournanment Thursday night at the Canyons Complex. SLCC (44-5) will advance to play defending national champion and #2-seed Wallace State CC in the winner's bracket semifinal round Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. (MDT), while SSCC (50-11) will face Southeastern CC in a consolation bracket elimination game Friday morning at 11 a.m. (MDT).
Salt Lake CC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning, thanks in part to a two-run single from 3B Lisa Riches. The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Amy Broadbent. McDonald worked five innings, scattering five hits and one run while fanning four.
Seminole finished with seven hits, including a pair of safeties from Katie Campbell. Starter Stephanie Glass, who just missed out on a perfect game earlier in the day vs. Spartanburg Methodist, allowed 10 hits and five runs, three earned, in six innings of work.
