LOS ANGELES, Nov 15, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Representatives for Nicole Richie say she's not the Hollywood starlet who reportedly had gastric bypass surgery, and then had it reversed.
Richie's publicist told People magazine the speculation, fueled by a newspaper report, was "ridiculous" and plenty of other women in show business could be the subject of the story.
The New York Post ran an item claiming that an unnamed "Hollywood starlet" had undergone the surgery, in which a specialized rubber band is placed around the gastric tract to restrict food intake.
Richie was on the short list of possibilities kept by celebrity-stalking reporters. People said she had weighed in recently at a wispy 90 pounds, but was seeking treatment to find out why she could not put on weight.
