DENVER (AP) -- Nurudeen Adepoju scored 19 points to lead Southern Utah to a 74-to-68 win over Denver in the Pioneers' home opener tonight.
Denver was able to cut a 15 point second half Southern Utah lead down to five with about a minute and a half left in the game, but the Thunderbirds made seven-of-eight free throws with just over a minute remaining to seal the win.
Guard DaShawn Walker scored a career high 27 points to lead Denver in scoring.
Denver led 16-ten in the first half before Southern Utah went on an 11-0 run to take a 21-16 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the half. Southern Utah is now two-and-oh.
