NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) -- Five Northwestern State players scored in double-figures, with Jermaine Spencer and Colby Bargeman each leading the way with 14 points, as the Demons downed Utah State 88-71 on Friday.
Luke Rogers added 13 points while Marcellas Ross finished with 12 and Jerry Moody had 10 for Northwestern State, the two-time defending Southland Conference champions.
Jaycee Carroll led the Aggies with 19 points.
Northwestern State, who last trailed 25-24 with 7:05 to play in the first half, carried a 42-39 lead into the break.
The Demons held onto a slight lead to start the second half, but saw a 5-point advantage go to 11 in a matter of a 1:30 after a full-court press forced Utah State into three consecutive turnovers that resulted in a 64-53 lead with 10:28 to play. Utah State closed the gap to 66-60 with 9:03 to play, but the Demons went on a 12-4 run sparked by a Bargeman 3-pointer to put the Demons up 78-64 with 3:54 to go.
