This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

I am a strong believer in the power music holds to uplift and enrich the soul. It can transplant you to other times and places or soothe you after a difficult day. I was delighted after my recent visit with Sheryl Lee Wilson, co-owner of Wilson Audio in Provo, whose company builds high-end loudspeakers for clients in more than 40 countries.

Dave Wilson, Sheryl Lee's husband, has a great love for music. Along with his passion come the gifts for envisioning what it is about sound that is emotionally satisfying and how he can produce that sound. These gifts have translated into Dave's method of building speakers, complete with minute attention to detail and using only high-quality materials. The company's motto is "Authentic Excellence."

Interest in the reproduction of music first started for Dave in 1959 at the age of 13 as he listened to the sound of carolers outside his window on Christmas Eve. Frustrated that the singers refused to move on, Dave discovered that the source of the music was a loudspeaker set on his neighbor's porch. This was the moment when Dave realized a good sound system could fool someone into thinking it was the real thing. The resulting fascination with audio became the basis for Dave and Sheryl Lee's company which launched in 1986.

Today, every speaker produced in the Wilson Audio facility is made with painstaking attention to detail. From the shelf-sized Duette, designed to sit on a table or bookshelf, to the company's flagship product, the Alexandria, a freestanding six-foot speaker with superior sound, all Wilson products reflect the quality of sound Dave expects to achieve.

Products are distributed in countries all over the world including Germany, Spain, Italy, Korea, Singapore, and India. Being a multi-national company during such a difficult economic time in the United States has been a boon for Wilson Audio. The weak dollar promotes trade in Europe, so sales remain strong. When one market is down there is another that is up.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
