LAGUNA BEACH Calif., Nov 8, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Residents of Laguna Beach, Calif., -- the real one, not the fictional one on MTV -- are fed up with the image of high schoolers partying all the time.

The New York Times reported this week that residents say their Southern California town is about "art and culture" and not about teen sex.

"This is not depicting our town the way it should be depicted," Lisa Arthur, a mother of three, told the Times.

The newspaper said a group of Laguna Beach parents got together this week for a forum with candidates for the school board. They demanded to know what could be done about the city's image, which they said has been belied by the glitter and glamour of Hollywood.

One board member told the concerned citizens that MTV had originally termed "Laguna Beach" a "documentary," and that no one in Laguna Beach had really green-lighted the show.

Some parents said they were advised by police officials that the number of sexual predators "had soared" in the area since the steamy show began, the Times said. However, police Capt. Danell Adams said that was a "crock."
