Yes, this does have to do with his statements regarding Miss California.
But, before we get into this, I want to be clear. This is NOT a blog about gay marriage. I don’t begrudge anyone their opinions on any topic. Mr. Hilton is free to express his views, and I applaud anyone taking full advantage of their freedom of speech.
Like any other human being, I have an opinion on gay marriage, too. I’ll never tell you what it is, though. Not as long as I’m a reporter whose job requires leaving personal opinions out of the stories I write. If I were a pundit, I’d express my opinion until I was blue in the face.
No, that’s not what this is about.
I’m focusing on Hilton’s comments during CNN’s Larry King Live describing why Miss California, Carrie Prejean, should not have won the title of Miss USA. In regard to her saying she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman, he said, “Yes, I do expect Miss USA to be politically correct. Do we want Miss USA that’s politically insensitive? That’s politically offensive? No.”
Again, not taking any sides on gay marriage, I want to illustrate his use of the words “insensitive” and “offensive.”
Uh… what?
This is the guy who writes nasty comments over pictures of celebrities on his website. He’s drawn private parts on pictures of Geraldo Rivera and Heidi Montag. He has called 16 year-old Miley Cyrus “Slutty Cyrus.” He called Tara Reid “a hot mess.” Even giving a backhanded compliment to Jessica Alba, saying she looks very cute when she smiles, he said her smile looks better than her usual “****face.”
This guy is talking about being sensitive? This guy is lecturing people about offensive behavior? Give me a break.
To be fair to Hilton, his website is not all snippy and nasty comments. He does lavish praise on those he feels deserves it. But, he’s made his living on occasionally being insensitive and offensive.
Mr. Hilton, you should practice what you preach.
Perez Hilton talking about the need for people not to be insensitive or offensive is like a fat guy like me giving out diet tips.
Despite this one issue I have with Hilton, I wish him nothing but success in his business and happiness in his life. He’s found a massive audience with his website because it’s interesting and entertaining.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to read Bernie Madoff’s blog on ethical business practices.
