(Phoenix, AZ) The Snow College Badger football team won their 1st Western States Football League championship in 10 years on Saturday. Steve Coburn's Badgers accomplished the feat in dramatic fashion in a come-from-behind 26-14 victory over the Phoenix Bears in Arizona.

Trailing 14-10 at half-time, Snow's defense kicked into high gear and held the Bears scoreless while allowing only 65 yards of offense in the 2nd half. Nose guard Sioele Nau was a big part of stopping the Phoenix ground attack, while recording a sack in the game.

Snow quarterback Cade Cooper, the nations leading passer, completed 23 of 32 passes for over 230 yards and 1 touchdown, while running for another. Running back Matt Asiata rumbled for over 165 yards and a touchdown.

With the win Snow claimed their 1st W.S.F.L. title since 1996 with a record of 7 and 1 in league play. The Badgers are now 10-1 overall and ranked 3rd in the nation. Head coach Steve Coburn says the Badgers have a bye week next week and will wait to see how #1 Blinn, Texas, and #2 Pearl River, Mississippi do in their championship games to see if Snow gets a shot at a national title game.

Extra: Cade Cooper is the 1st Badger quarterback to throw for over 2,500 yards in a season since Jason Couts in 2003. Cooper needs just over 100 passing yards in Snow's bowl game to pass the 3,000 yard mark, which was last accomplished by Fred Salanoa in 1997. Cooper is currently 7 yards shy of 2,900 yards passing on the season and is ranked as the number one quarterback in the NJCAA.
