What is the large outer ring around the moon tonight? Firday November 3rd!!! It looks amazing, but I can't get a photo of it! Kristen L

Here's a photo of a halo, but not the same one. This ring is called a halo. It forms when there are ice crystals in the sky that are shaped like hexagons. The light is bent or refracted as it passes through these crystals.

Halos can form at night or duing the day. The clouds that contain the ice crystals are about 3 to 6 miles above the surface of the earth.
