Jerry Sloan and John Stockton are hardly about fame.

Such a fleeting thing isn't what drives them to excellence. Rather, it is an innate competitiveness and an undeviating appreciation for the intricacies of the game that have brought them concurrently to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Now their fame will be enshrined among the greatest ever associated with the game.

It is delightfully fitting that a couple of blue-collar types in this age of exorbitant salaries, personal indulgence and eccentric egos would be given the honor at the same time during their first year of eligibility. They're so much alike. They epitomize steadiness, stability and sensibility.

Jerry Sloan, the fourth winningest coach in NBA history and the only NBA coach to win 1,000 games with one team. During his playing days, he was much like Stockton.

Yes, John Stockton, the NBA's career assists record holder as well as the player with a record number of steals. He played in every game in 17 of the 19 seasons he was on the roster of the Jazz.

KSL joins Jazz fans as well as basketball purists everywhere in congratulating Jerry Sloan and John Stockton for the honor, even the fame that has come their way. There couldn't be two more deserving honorees.
