LOS ANGELES, Oct 27, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Veteran U.S. stage actor Arthur Hill, who won a Tony Award for his role in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?," has died of Alzheimer's disease at the age of 84.
After an impressive 40-year stage career that included his role as an abused husband in Edward Albee's "Virginia Woolf," Hill succumbed to the neurodegenerative disease Sunday in the California district of Pacific Palisades, the Los Angeles Times reported.
A former law student at the University of British Columbia, Hill had once detailed how he took to acting in a way in he never could with as a hopeful lawyer.
"In acting, I seemed to instinctively know what was going on, while other students worked at it," he said once in an interview. "And in law, they seemed to take to it instinctively, while I had to work at it."
The Times said Hill is survived by his son, Douglas, his wife, Anne-Sophie Taraba, two sisters, a stepdaughter and a step-granddaughter.
