A Spanish photographer for the Associated Press news agency was released by his kidnappers in the Gaza Strip late on Tuesday after less than a day in captivity, security sources said.

Emilio Morenatti "has been handed over to Palestinian security services. He will be returned to his agency" in the very near future, the sources said.

Morenatti, 37, had been seized by four masked and armed men as he left his residence in the centre of Gaza City early on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said he was bundled into a car and driven away.
