NEW YORK, NY, Oct 23, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Home and Home Furnishings/Entertainment or "shelter" magazines grew by more than 90 percent, increasing from 110 to 210 titles from 2005 to 2006, according to "The National Directory of Magazines," 2007 edition.

Other magazine categories on the rise are regional magazines, up 47 percent, from 638 to 942 titles; and Bridal magazines up 27 percent, from 102 to 130 titles over the last year. Magazine categories that declined in number were Lifestyle by 40 percent; Entertainment by 39 percent, and General Interest by 37 percent over the last year.

"The recent real estate boom and the ongoing 'nesting' syndrome contributed to the growth in home and bridal magazines, with new magazines such as 'Innovative Home,' 'Decorating Spaces,' and 'Women's Day Decorating with Style' launched in 2006," said Deborah Striplin, Editorial Director of Oxbridge Communications, Inc., publishers of "The National Directory of Magazines" and MediaFinder.com. "The growth in regional publications and newspaper supplements, such as 'Manatee,' and 'Texas Profile,' highlights the increased focus on local interests. New regional publications are starting up around the country, while national publications such as 'Trump Magazine' are spinning off regional editions."

"The National Directory of Magazines" is the largest directory of U.S. and Canadian publications with 19,413 titles, including 15,728 magazines and 3,685 tabloids, specialized newspapers, and major journals that carry advertising.

In "The National Directory of Magazines," publication titles are divided into 260 subject categories from Accounting to Zoology. The largest magazine categories in this edition are Medicine (1,038 listings), Regional Interest (940 ), Religion (762), Ethnic (726), Travel (643), Business (557), College Alumni (496), and College Student Press (452). In fact, medical magazines have been the largest magazine category for the last 10 years.

"The National Directory of Magazines" provides vital data such as subscription prices, advertising and list rental rates, list management company, circulation and frequency, key personnel names and contact information including 26,611 e-mail addresses and 22,453 website addresses. It also provides print specifications and printing company, as well as year established, description of contents, and ISSN#. The 16,053 titles that carry advertising and the 4,649 titles that rent their subscriber lists are printed in bold so that advertisers and marketers can find them easily.

In addition, "The National Directory of Magazines" includes four helpful indexes to make it easy to find a magazine. For example, librarians use the "Title Change Index" and the "Title/ISSN Index" to research titles; businesses use the "Index to Companies by State" to generate leads by region; and printers and publishers use the "Multi-Title Publishers Index" to find prospects by size and type.
