NEW YORK, Oct 18, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Longtime editor of Playboy's ribald cartoons, Michelle Urry died last Sunday at her New York home from a cancer of the eye at the age of 66.
Known for her wicked sense of humor which she introduced to the cartoons that laced the pages of the men's magazine, Urry succumbed to an ocular melanoma Sunday while in her Manhattan home, the New York Times reported.
The former dress shop owner originally began working for Playboy creator Hugh Hefner as a telephone operator. She eventually worked her way to becoming a cartoonist and finally cartoon editor.
A staunch feminist, Urry's connection to Playboy caused some tension during the 1970s yet she maintained her stance that the publication offered a liberated view for women through its support for women's rights.
The Times said that Urry is survived by her son, Caleb Urry, and her husband, screenwriter Alan R. Trustman.
