HOBOKEN, N.J. (AFX) - Global publishing company John Wiley & Sons Inc. said Wednesday it acquired U.K.-based travel content and technology business Whatsonwhen Ltd. for an undisclosed amount.

Wiley said the acquisition will enhance its travel-related online and print content, which includes the Frommer's, For Dummies and Unofficial Guides brands.

"Whatsonwhen's dynamic and scaleable technology platform, unique and valuable content assets, expertise in site-building, and outstanding client roster will extend our ability to capture a greater share of burgeoning spending in online travel marketing, and will bring Wiley powerful new capabilities, which will be of interest to consumers and travel-related companies," said Stephen A. Kippur, Wiley's president of professional and trade publishing.

Whatsonwhen publishes an online calendar of events around the world, licenses content from its events database and builds Web sites.
