NEW YORK, Oct 13, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A musical stage production based on the Hollywood film "Shrek" has added "Monty Python's Spamalot" cohorts Hugh Vanstone and Tim Hatley to its creative team.
With a release planned for 2008 of "Shrek: The Musical," Vanstone will take on the musical's lighting duties while his collaborator from the Broadway musical based on "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" will design the production's sets and costumes, Daily Variety reported.
Also recently signed to the musical's creative team was Jeanine Tesori, who has previously worked on "Caroline, or Change" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie," and will compose the stage adaptation's music.
"Rabbit Hole" screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire is set to write the production's book and lyrics, while Jason Moore of "Avenue Q" will take on directorial duties.
Daily Variety reported that the cinematic inspiration for the new production was first released by DreamWorks Animation and Neal Street Productions in 2001 and was itself an adaptation of a 1990 children's book by William Steig.
