This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Let me pay a tribute to two outstanding Utah business leaders.

After a 33-year career at Intermountain Healthcare, the organization's president, William H. (Bill) Nelson retired in January. Dr. Charles W. Sorenson, Jr., Intermountain's executive vice president and chief operating officer, has succeeded Bill as the president.

I am a personal friend of both of these exceptional gentlemen. Both are wise business leaders as well as outstanding family men and great corporate citizens. They are true achievers in many aspects of their lives.

Bill Nelson is a "Giant in our City." He has been an integral part of Intermountain Healthcare since the Utah-based nonprofit health system was founded. Through his career, he's been part of several national health reform efforts and helped Intermountain become one of the most respected medical institutions in the nation. Bill joined IHC as the chief financial officer after a career with the accounting firm Ernst and Young. In 1995, he became the chief operating officer, and in 1999, he was appointed president.

Dr. Charles Sorenson is a board-certified urologic surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He joined Intermountain's senior management team in 1998. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Utah Medical Association, and he served as president of LDS Hospital's medical staff. He is also an adjunct associate surgery professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine.

We send our very best wishes to Bill Nelson and his family as they venture into new responsibilities and endeavors. The community will miss Bill and remember with fondness the many ways he benefited our city and state. And congratulations to Dr. Charles Sorenson as he takes the reigns of this great company.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
