NEWARK, N.J. (AFX) - Audible Inc., which sells audio versions of books and other publications that users download from its Web site, has announced it will be moving its corporate headquarters to downtown Newark from Wayne, N.J.

More than 170 employees of Audible, the exclusive provider of spoken-word content for Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes Music Store, will relocate in early 2007, the company said.

The publicly traded company will take over about 50,000-square-feet of space in a 17-story red brick office tower.

The new headquarters will include a studio installation to accelerate audible.com's audio production and educational programming efforts.

Donald R. Katz, founder and CEO of Audible, said the company wants to be part of the "Newark Renaissance."

The 23-year-old building into which the company is moving also houses the business school at Rutgers University's Newark campus.

Audible would join several other businesses in the area, including IDT Corp. and Verizon Communications Inc.
