NEW YORK, Oct 9, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Female artists spoke out in New York at the VH1 Hip hop Honors about the male domination of the last few incarnations of the awards ceremony.
With Hip hop artist MC Lyte honored at this year's ceremony at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, numerous other female musical artists offered her and women in general a tribute for their contributions to the musical genre, MTV.com said.
Joining Lyte, who was only the second female artist to be recognized in the event's history, on stage in the all-female tribute was Lil' Kim, Remy Ma and Da Brat, all of whom offered a female perspective to the ceremony.
"It's a man's world, says who?" Yo-Yo said. "We make this thing go round and round too."
The event, which kicked off New York's Hip hop Week, had previously only honored women by recognizing the musical efforts of Salt-N-Pepa last year, the Web site said.
