NEW YORK, Oct 5, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- An upcoming Broadway production of the legal drama "Inherit the Wind" is set to have Tony Award winners Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer as its leads.
The limited engagement of the drama, based on a 1955 work by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, will begin its 10-week run next March with Dennehy and Plummer taking on the roles of Matthew Harrison Brady and Henry Drummond, respectively, Playbill.com reported.
Both the upcoming production by director Doug Hughes and the original work were both inspired by the famous 1925 Scopes "Monkey" trial, which saw William Jennings Bryant and Clarence Darrow arguing over the right of a U.S. teacher to teach Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
Dennehy received his Tony Awards for his roles in Broadway renditions of "Death of a Salesman" and "Long Day's Journey into Night," while Plummer won his Tonys for his part in productions of "Barrymore" and "Cyrano" and was also nominated for the title role in a 2004 version of "King Lear."
