This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that in 2007, more than 40 million computers were discarded. To put it in perspective, that's more than 112,000 computers per day! The majority of these computers ends up in the landfill and has the potential to poison the environment.
With such a staggering amount of excess electronics, it makes sense that companies would arise to handle the discarded items. That's what Brad Morley, Curtis Nelson and Jason Dye do through their company, Total Asset Management Solutions, otherwise known as TAMSolutions.
Lindon-based TAMSolutions offers three basic services: recycling electronics, which includes securing the sensitive data on computer hard drives; liquidating a company's surplus assets; and selling refurbished corporate-grade products at a significant discount to the public. Brad says many companies want to go green and keep electronics out of the landfill, but they're worried about the cost. They are often surprised to discover how inexpensively TAMSolutions can take care of such equipment.
Brad tells me he, Curtis and Jason ended up in their business inadvertently. Six years ago all three were involved with a Utah Valley company that had to close. The company left a number of assets that had to be liquidated. As a result of helping with that process, Brad, Curtis and Jason realized there was an entire industry related to liquidating assets they could get involved with so five years ago, they formed TAMSolutions.
As the population of the United States increases its appetite for electronic components, the problem of surplus electronics will continue to increase. Brad, Curtis and Jason are confident the services they offer through TAMSolutions will help Utah companies and residents dispose of their electronic waste in an ecological, safe and cost-effective manner.
