LONDON, Oct 1, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Leslie Grantham has taken responsibility for the sexually explicit photos that got the actor fired from the "EastEnders" British TV series.

The BBC said that 59-year-old actor admits in his new autobiography that he "let everyone down" and said he is now happy that his secret has been exposed.

Pictures of the actor exposing himself to the Internet on his dressing room Web cam were published in 2004, the BBC said.

"I tried to lie my way out of the situation instead of facing up to it like a man," wrote Grantham, who played "Dirty Den" Watts on the BBC soap opera. "Things got so bad I tried to kill myself."

"I don't have to lie about this any more. Now I'm just trying to get on with my life," he added.

In his autobiography, Grantham says the boredom surrounding the popular TV series was what ultimately drove him to take the photographs, said the BBC.
