(KSL News) -- We're used to checking the expiration dates on things like milk and other fresh foods, but how about your tires?
That's what a consumer advocacy group wants to do. A group called Strategic Safety claims rubber degrades over time, making older tires, even unused spare tires, unsafe.
The group says it has documented 20 accidents caused by the failure of old tires.
The tire industry opposes the idea, saying other variables like mileage, temperature prevent them from setting a fair standard.
