Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko beat experienced Italian Francesca Schiavone 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday to capture her first career title with victory in the Luxembourg WTA tournament.
Bondarenko will now record a new career-high ranking on Monday of 33 in the world, surpassing her previous high of 51.
For her part, fifth-seed Schiavone fell to 0-8 in singles finals.
"I didn't think about how it was a final, and that I could win or lose; I just played, and concentrated on every point," said Bondarenko, one of three tennis-playing sisters.
"I'm very happy to win my first title. I hope it's not my last. If I keep playing like I did here, it'll help open doors for me."
