KSL Newsradio's Randall Jeppeson reporting Gas dropped below $2.00 a gallon in Orem this morning, at least for three hours at one gas station.

The station is trying to drum up business after a road closure.

One driver, Dave, says his tank was almost empty when he spotted the gas sign saying $1.99. "I thought it was wrong, then when I saw the line going into the gas station, I knew it was probably legit," he said.

The old frontage road at 8th North was closed and moved further east a few months back, but the Phillips gas station here stayed open even though you have to drive up and around and back to get to it. Now the manager says the they're having a re-grand opening to get the customers back.

"Yeah, it's a way just to show our appreciation for the customers," said the station manager.

"It's a ploy to get us in there," said Dave, "but it worked for today, and I'll stop in again and see them."

The manager says he didn't even know they were going to drop the prices that low until he got word from the owner this morning.

Nationally, gas prices have dropped over the past few weeks, to an average of $2.34 a gallon. In Utah, the average for regular self-serve sits at $2.78 a gallon, according to AAA.
