LEHI — Greatest grass on Earth?

Lack of snowfall in Utah this winter has been a source of conversation and hand-wringing, notably because the state and the Great Salt Lake rely on the water that comes from the white stuff when it melts. Beyond that, the snow-free landscapes, at least in lower-elevation areas, and relatively balmy temperatures don't quite align with the Ski Utah slogan for the state: Greatest Snow on Earth.

Perhaps with that in mind, a Lehi family took to a grassy slope in their neighborhood, sliding and boarding down the decline on cardboard boxes. "No snow? No problem for these Utah shredders," read the captions on a Weather Channel video short featuring the family taking turns sliding down the hill, sometimes sitting, sometimes standing.

The video notes the lack of snow this season. "Utah's famous powder has been MIA this winter," it states, calling the turn of events "Mother Nature's curveball in snow country." Does that make Utah home of the greatest grass on Earth?

All kidding aside, the state's ski resorts, located at higher elevations where snow isn't as scarce, are operating, though the conditions may not be ideal. And the Ski Utah website maintains an optimistic outlook, noting the possibility of snow next week in its Friday weather forecast. "An overall pattern change should keep chances for snow going through the middle of the month and beyond," it reads.

Still, lack of snow has prompted some to adjust, the Weather Channel notes. The Lehi family's "innovative approach to winter fun demonstrates how weather challenges can inspire creative adaptations, proving that true winter enthusiasts will always find a way to shred, snow or no snow," a blurb on the family's exploits reads.
