CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Johnny Sanchez and Wes Marshall rushed for 244 yards and two touchdowns to lead Southern Utah to a 30-21 victory Saturday over Texas State.
Marshall's 38-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter broke a 21-all tie. The win gave the Thunderbirds (3-1) their best start since 1999. Sanchez rushed for 145 yards and Marshall ran for 99.
Bradley George went 17-34 for 266 yards and three touchdowns for Texas State (1-3). George threw two interceptions and was sacked for a safety in the fourth quarter.
Trailing 21-7 at the half, George brought the Bobcats back with touchdown passes of 3 yards to Blake Burton and 12 yards to Alvin Canady.
Sanchez opened the scoring with a 74-yard sweep five minutes into the game. Marshall completed 14 of 23 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns to Joey Hew Len.
