BYU's Gibb unanimously named to Preseason All-Big 12 team

PROVO — BYU's rising star Delaney Gibb continues to make her mark on the Big 12. The sophomore guard was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team on Thursday morning, becoming the first Cougar ever to earn the honor since BYU joined the conference last year.

The Big 12 released its annual preseason awards and coaches poll, with Gibb standing out as one of the league's top returning players. The Raymond, Alberta, native was also one of the youngest players named to the list — a testament to her breakout freshman campaign.

Gibb is the first BYU player to be named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, with Lauren Gustin being selected as an honorable mention in 2023. The sophomore f is coming off an impressive freshman season in which she racked up 10 Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors en route to securing a unanimous Big 12 Freshman of the Year award.

Last season, Gibb burst onto the scene as one of the most dynamic guards in the conference, averaging 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game on 45.3% shooting. She ranked eighth in the Big 12 in scoring and fourth in 3-point percentage at 39.5%, earning a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team.

"This is a really cool recognition for Delaney because the coaches in the Big 12 know the game of basketball and what qualities impact winning," said head coach Lee Cummard. "This recognition shows the respect the coaches in our league have for Delaney and how impactful she is for our team, as it pertains to winning."

The Cougars were picked to finish 10th in the conference in the coaches poll, their highest selection since joining the league in 2023.

BYU is coming off a 12th place finish in the Big 12 after posting a 4-14 conference record but after a flurry of offseason moves that included the promotion of assistant coach Lee Cummard to head coach and a myriad of roster additions, Gibb and the Cougars look to bounce back and put themselves in the mix for the NCAA tournament.

Gibb's preseason honor underscores her growing influence as the face of BYU's program and a cornerstone for its rebuild. If her sophomore campaign builds on last year's momentum, Gibb could not only elevate her national profile but also help steer the Cougars toward their first NCAA Tournament berth as Big 12 members.
