With unemployment in Salt Lake County at less than 4%, there is no better time for job seekers to find a pathway to a high-demand career. Employers from every industry are looking for people with skills to join their work force in high-wage careers.

At Salt Lake Technical College (Salt Lake Tech), students can choose from over 60 programs leading to specific careers employers seek to fill. With little to no experience in the field, students will learn the skills that prepare them for entry-level positions with a path to advancement.

Utah's economy continues to show robust job growth. More than 900 open positions are posted monthly in Salt Lake County for jobs requiring the skills SLTech programs teach. Instructors are industry experts who can help students with important information about the areas they want to enter.

Many students who start programs at Salt Lake Tech continue to work while they attend classes. Programs are designed and scheduled to work around various life commitments, including full- and part-time work, family and other responsibilities.

Students range in age from 18 to 55 and many bring prior skills and knowledge. Most Salt Lake Tech programs can be completed in a matter of months and students have the flexibility to attend school when it fits their schedule, including evening and weekend classes. Class sizes are small with individualized attention.

A study published by Gallup noted that, on average, individuals who gain new skills increase their salary by 8.6%. It also found that job satisfaction increased with more skill attainment. As technology continues to change and advance more quickly than ever, new skills (upskilling) are critical to any worker's career path.

Whether an individual is looking to change careers (on average, workers change careers five to seven times in a lifetime) or advance in a path they have already chosen, the key is learning new skills.

Salt Lake Tech is part of Salt Lake Community College and is the designated provider of technical education in Salt Lake County for the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE).

Most technical programs can be completed in a matter of months. Tuition is affordable, and the College offers a variety of scholarships. Many students can qualify for financial aid to assist them as they learn. Students who complete programs will be prepared for careers with sustainable salaries to support individuals and families.
