CEDAR CITY — Officials gathered in Cedar City on Sept. 10 for the dedication of the new Southern Utah National Cemetery.

Located atop a hill just south of the Providence Center shopping area, the cemetery will serve as a final resting place for U.S. military veterans and service members, along with their spouses and children.

The event was attended by approximately 300 people, including veterans, community members, local leaders, visiting dignitaries and officials representing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration.

As he welcomed those in attendance, Roderick "Tony" Thomas, director of the Fort Logan National Cemetery Complex, said the new facility in Cedar City marks the VA's 157th national cemetery.
