JEREMY RANCH, Summit County — A westbound I-80 lane near Parleys Canyon reopened Monday afternoon after a crash in a construction zone earlier in the day led to a major cleanup and traffic headaches.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash between Jeremy Ranch and Parleys Summit shortly before 9:45 a.m. Two of the lanes were already closed because of a construction project, but a box truck collided with a Subaru as it tried to merge into the left of the two open lanes, causing the Subaru to come back to the right, where it hit a semitruck in the fuel tank, said UHP Lt. Cam Roden.

A passenger in the Subaru was transported to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to Roden. He added that the second collision created a fuel spill that dumped 100-150 gallons in the area, prompting a hazardous materials cleanup response that has kept one of the lanes closed.

The lane has since reopened, while two others remain closed for construction. Drivers should still expect "moderate delays" because of the roadwork in the area, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.
