HOLLADAY — Olympus' homecoming crowd came ready to see fireworks Friday night; instead, they got a defensive slugfest that ended with Park City walking away with a 10-3 victory on their home field.
The Titans (2-2) entered the night looking to bounce back after a quiet offensive stretch, but penalties, stalled drives and a quarterback carousel left the home team struggling to find any rhythm.
Over the past two weeks, Olympus has managed just one touchdown.
For Park City (2-2), the win was a much-needed reset after an up-and-down start to the season. The Miners have rotated four different quarterbacks through their first four games, searching for stability. But against Olympus, their defense provided all the consistency it needed.
Neither offense gained traction in the opening quarter, trading punts until the scoreboard finally lit up in the final seconds of the half. With 3.5 seconds remaining, Park City kicker Tanner Pidwell drilled a field goal to give the Miners a 3-0 halftime lead.
Olympus' offense fell early in the second quarter, forcing a switch from Cade Esperson to Jack Ferrin. The Titans' rotation continued into the second half when Esperson re-entered late in the third quarter, but the offense never found its footing.
Park City's defense delivered the game's turning point midway through the third quarter when Thomas Davis intercepted a Titans pass. Moments later, Brogan Price broke through three tacklers on a determined touchdown run to give the Miners a 10-0 lead with 3:45 left in the third.
"Our defense just kept giving us chances," Price said. "We knew if we stayed patient, we'd find a way."
Olympus tried to rally late in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough. After missing a field goal earlier, kicker Colter Rollins connected from short range with 16 seconds left to cut the deficit to 10-3.
The Titans recovered the ensuing onside kick and moved inside Park City's 25-yard line with one last chance, but an overthrown pass in the end zone ended the comeback attempt.
"It feels good to get one like this," Price said. "We've been working to put a full game together."
The Miners' win spoils Olympus' homecoming night and re-establishes Park City at .500 on the season. The Titans will look to regroup and reignite their offense as the team heads into next week.
