BARBIE WORLD — I've been a Barbie girl for as long as I can remember. My afternoons were spent rewatching iconic Barbie movies, creating elaborate scenarios for the dolls, playing computer-generated games and, of course, dressing up in the iconic Barbie dresses.
The Barbie movies of the early 2000s and into the 2010s became so nostalgic for an entire generation. The films — from "Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper" to "Barbie as the Island Princess" — became so nostalgic for an entire generation. I hope I am not the first to have seen Barbie-themed jewelry, rugs, clothing and stickers dominating my social media pages.
Most of all, I love to see the dresses. Growing up, I had dress-up gowns for every Barbie movie imaginable. I spent more time in high heels than any little girl I know and lived for the magic of placing a tiara.
It seems I am not the only 2000s girl with nostalgia for the Barbie movie dresses. The resurgence of the iconic movies has led many social media influencers to recreate Barbie movie dresses and gowns all on their own. Alexandra Louise is one of the creators leading the charge.
For Louise, sewing began as a hobby inspired by the COVID-19 quarantine. Over time, she developed her sewing skills — and her fan base. Today, Louise has over 2.5 million followers on TikTok and 1.2 million followers on Instagram. With over 50 custom gowns created, Louise has found her fan base.
As an avid follower, the most magical part is seeing how Louise takes piles of fabric and transforms them into the dresses I dreamed about as a little girl. It truly feels like a fairy-tale-come-to-life to see her craftsmanship, attention to detail and whimsy come to life in a dress. If the dress is in a Barbie movie, you can believe that Louise has made it.
She constantly makes new creations, sharing them with her fans all over the internet. One of her most recent projects was the iconic dress from "Barbie: Princess Charm School." The hot pink vision took months to create and perfect. Fans of the movie and Louise herself have gone wild for the design.
To cater to those not as familiar with the BCU (Barbie Cinematic Universe), Louise also creates dresses inspired by Disney princesses, niche movie characters, fairytale worlds and the red carpet.
Keep an eye on her page to never miss a new dress!
