SEOUL, South Korea — World champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States are one point behind Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada in ice dance at the figure skating Four Continents in Seoul. Chock and Bates' energetic rhythm dance routine moved them into first place. But defending champions Gilles and Poirier, the last skaters to take the ice, overtook them thanks to an upbeat routine to a medley of surf music. Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, also of Canada, are third. The free dance on Saturday will wrap up the ice dance. The men's short program is topped by Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan. He has a comfortable 14-point lead over Jimmy Ma of the United States.
