SALT LAKE CITY — The hits keep coming for the Utah Hockey Club — and not the fun kind.

Forward Logan Cooley will be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury the team announced on Friday. The young star will be re-evaluated following the 4-Nations Face-Off break in February.

It'll be a tough blow for a team trying to hang around the playoff chase.

Cooley has emerged as one of Utah's most consistent offensive threats in his second year in the NHL. He is second on the team in points with 43 (15 goals, 28 assists) and has been centering Utah's top line with Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz over the past few weeks.

He's also been key to Utah's first power-play and penalty-kill unit. All in all, that's a lot of production and ice time to try and replace.

Head coach André Tourigny said the injury occurred during Utah's loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

"He finished the game, he was a warrior," Tourigny told reporters on Friday ahead of Utah's game against Columbus. "He battled through pain, but now he will be out indefinitely."

It's just the latest injury blow for The Club, which has yet to have a full, healthy roster this season.

Top defensemen John Marino, Sean Durzi and Mikhail Sergachev have all missed extended time this season (Durzi is still out).

Earlier this month, injuries hit the forward line when Dylan Guenther was ruled out "indefinitely" with a lower-body injury. Guenther has started skating with the team in a non-contact jersey and Tourigny said he is now considered "day-to-day."

"You need to move on. It is what it is," Tourigny said. "Columbus is missing their top two centers. Every team is the same. You can not feel sorry for yourself. That league will jump right at your throat if you think you can feel sorry for yourself."

Utah called up Josh Doan from the AHL to help replace Guenther but hasn't yet made any moves in the immediate wake of Cooley's injury.

The team will move Alexander Kerfoot to the first line with Keller and Schmaltz for Friday's game. Forwards Liam O'Brien, Michael Carcone and Matias Maccelli — all of which have been recent healthy scratches — will all be in the lineup as well.

"You need to find a way to keep moving forward," Tourigny said. "We talked early in the season about out depth. It's time for us up front to show that we have depth."
