If you're like most parents, you've watched every children's movie recently released.
Several times over.
Often back-to-back.
If you're ready to "Let It Go" and show your kids a timeless classic, jump back in time to the 90s.
Though the decade's top-grossing movies aren't all appropriate for children, (such as "Titanic"), there are some cute flicks the whole family can enjoy. Here are a few 90s movies to watch with your kids.
'Secret Garden' (1993)
Certified "Fresh" by Rotten Tomatoes, this 1993 adaptation of the classic, "Secret Garden" is a fan favorite.
Kate Maberly is cast as Mary Lennox, a rich child who grew up in India, but has to move in with her uncle when her parents die in an earthquake. On her uncle Archibald's estate, she finds her supposedly ill cousin, Colin, and befriends him. Without parents or guardians who spend time with the children, they spend their free time in Colin's late mother's secret garden on the property.
This adaptation of the novel drew lots of praise. One Google reviewer said, "The loveliest version of this film I have ever seen. The three children's acting is a delight. Maggie Smith is outstanding as Mrs. Medlock the housekeeper. Watch it most for the scenery especially the Yorkshire Moors and the locations including the garden."
Perhaps the movie's trailer will pique your interest.
'Anastasia' (1997)
This beautifully-animated classic is a great show for kids and adults alike. The story is loosely based on the real Grand Duchess, Anastasia, of Russia. In the film, the young royal is separated from her family during a raid on the palace by Rasputin. She manages to survive, unlike her immediate family, but forgets her past and lineage.
As she works to find out her real identity as an adult, she finds that there are many impersonators of the now-adult duchess, Anastasia. Little does she know that she is actually the lost heiress.
The voice cast of the film is filled with stars of the 90s, including Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Lloyd, Angela Lansbury and Bernadette Peters.
The only downside of this flick is that the songs will get stuck in your head for days to come.
'Little Rascals' (1994)
This iconic 90s movie is full of lines your kids will quote over and over for years to come. The often-chaotic story follows the members of the "He-Man Women Haters Club" as they gear up for the annual go-kart race. Their fearless leader, Alfalfa, is threatening to throw away their three-year streak when he develops a crush on Darla.
Watch the kids' shenanigans play out in "Little Rascals" with your kids for a fun and nostalgic evening.
'Air Bud' (1997)
What's not to love about a golden retriever that can play basketball?
A young boy, Josh, discovers a runaway dog one day in a makeshift basketball court behind an abandoned church. When the golden retriever shows a surprising knack for shooting hoops, Josh decides to adopt the pup and name him Buddy.
When Josh makes the school basketball team, against the wishes of his classmates and even the coach, Buddy shows up at a game to help the struggling team out. The dog becomes the school's mascot and eventually a registered member of the team.
Josh and his pal have to work around mean coaches, teammates, rivals and Buddy's former owner to take their team to victory.
The animal lovers and sports fans in your family will all enjoy the heartwarming tale of the dog who can play basketball.
You know you're watching a winning movie when 83% of Google reviewers liked the movie.
'The Borrowers' (1997)
Based on a book written by Mary Norton in the 1950s, "The Borrowers" follows the lives of a family of 4-inch-tall people living among normal-sized people. The Clock family survives under the floorboards and steals the items of the bigger people living in the home. When one of the children notices his things are constantly going missing, he discovers the Clocks and enlists them to help him fight the lawyer trying to tear down the house to build luxury apartments.
John Goodman, Jim Broadbent, Mark Williams, Tom Felton and Celia Imrie star in this cute film that many 90s kids remember fondly.
The movie scored a praiseworthy 75% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes — a difficult feat for many flicks.
'Flubber' (1997)
In a movie that 73% of Google users liked, Robin Williams stars in the silly comedy of an absent-minded professor trying to save his college from closing for good. In his lab, he creates a green slimy "Flubber" that takes on a mind of its own. Not only can the goo move around, but it can also bounce, stretch and lift objects.
Williams's character has to track down and control his invention before his rival catches wind of it and takes it for his own.
Giggle through the antics and slapstick comedy woven into every scene in "Flubber" with young kids (and adults who never grew up).
'The Parent Trap' (1998)
Ask any 90s kid what they think of the cinematic masterpiece that is "The Parent Trap" and "iconic" is probably what comes to mind. The 1998 remake starring Lindsey Lohan, Dennis Quaid, and Natasha Richardson was definitely on the VHS shelf of every household in the late 90s.
Lindsey Lohan plays both twins, Annie and Hallie. Each discovers her other biological half when both of their parents — unknowingly — send them away for the summer to Camp Walden.
When the two put the pieces together and realize they're actually twins, they each go home to the other twin's life. Annie, pretending to be Hallie, quickly learns her father is engaged to a much younger money-hungry woman determined to ship Hallie off to boarding school.
In an effort to get their parents back together, Annie thwarts every wedding detail she can, until the twins are found out and forced to return to their original parent and home.
The ups and downs in this comedic rom com can't be overstated. Pop some popcorn and cozy up for a heartwarming two hours.
