NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Barry Trotz won a Stanley Cup as a coach and is showing no patience for rebuilding and a chance at a fuzzy, optimistic future. Winning now isn't easy. The man who coached the Washington Capitals to the Cup in 2018 spent his second offseason as Nashville's general manager making the NHL's biggest free agency splash to position the Predators as contenders again. He signed Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei for Nashville's version of Christmas morning. Trotz says he just wants the Predators to be a threat and win their first playoff series since 2018 after Nashville's lone Stanley Cup Final in 2017.
