PARIS — Gia Pergolini defended her Tokyo gold medal in the S13 women's 100m backstroke, becoming the first United States athlete to win gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. She said she has grown mentally and matured in those three years, but nerves were still a factor. While enjoying these games, Pergolini is looking forward to her own country's turn to host in 2028.
