CHICAGO — Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander has been placed on the 15-day injured list to give him more time to resolve his lingering neck discomfort. The 41-year-old Verlander was scratched from Saturday's start against the Detroit Tigers. The three-time AL Cy Young Award winner also missed the start of the season due to inflammation in his right shoulder. Verlander had been trying to pitch through the neck issue, but it wasn't getting any better. Astros manager Joe Espada says Verlander wasn't feeling well enough to start playing catch, so the team decided to put him on the IL.
