FRANKFURT, Germany — There are UEFA rules against making political statements should be kept out of soccer stadiums. At this summer's European Championship, that may be harder than ever to police. Ukraine is competing at Euro 2024 against the backdrop of the war at home against Russia, and its fans have already been using the team's qualifying games to draw attention to the situation by holding up politically charged banners in the stands. More of the same can be expected during the tournament in Germany and could test UEFA's abilities to effectively enforce its disciplinary rules against political statements in stadiums.
