PARIS — Catch up on the French Open with a guide that tells you everything you need to know about what happened at the clay-court Grand Slam tennis tournament, what the upcoming schedule is, how to watch, what the betting odds are and more:
For the first time in 20 years, there will be a French Open men's final without any of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer. Instead, there will be a first-time champion at Roland Garros. The men's semifinals are Friday, with Jannik Sinner facing Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev playing Casper Ruud. Sinner is 22, and Alcaraz 21, and by Monday — when Sinner replaces Djokovic atop the ATP rankings — both will have been at No. 1. Alcaraz owns two major titles, Sinner one. Sinner won this year's Australian Open and is trying to get halfway to a calendar-year Grand Slam. Their rivalry is tied at 4-4 so far. They start in Court Philippe Chatrier on Friday at 2:30 p.m. (1230 GMT; 8:30 a.m. EDT). Ruud and Zverev won't start before 5:30 p.m. (1530 GMT; 11:30 a.m. EDT). Ruud was the runner-up in Paris to Nadal in 2022 and Djokovic in 2023. Zverev, the 2020 U.S. Open runner-up, is involved in an ongoing court case in Berlin connected to his former partner's accusation he caused her bodily harm.
No. 1 Iga Swiatek defeated No. 3 Coco Gauff 6-2, 6-4 for a 20th win in a row at Roland Garros as she pursues a third consecutive trophy in Paris and fourth in five years. The 23-year-old Swiatek is also aiming for a fifth major overall, including her triumph at the 2022 U.S. Open. In Saturday's final, she will face No. 12 seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy. Paolini won 6-3, 6-1 against unseeded 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva. Paolini reached her first Grand Slam final at age 28.
