This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

In all the interviews I do for this program, I never cease to be amazed at the different types of businesses I encounter. Treasure Dental Studio in Salt Lake City, owned by Hal Shepherd and Jeff Stronk, is one such company.

Treasure Dental Studio is a crown and bridge lab that makes dental products such as crowns, veneers and dental implants. Dental implants are the fastest growing segment of the dental industry, and this is one of the niches Jeff and Hal feel fortunate they had the foresight to get involved with years ago. Cosmetics restorations, which can drastically change a person's life, are the company's other specialty.

Treasure Dental Studio has grown to include more than 20 employees and is on track to exceed $2.5 million in sales this year. In light of this phenomenal growth, the studio recently moved into a 6,400-square-foot facility.

Jeff says the lab is distinguished by its staff, who are all talented at finding the delicate balance between art and science that their work requires. Hal and Jeff are committed to finding talented employees, treating them well and letting the employees work on their own. The two co-owners' management styles complement each other since the extroverted Jeff establishes the relationships and the more reserved Hal is methodical about overseeing the details of every case.

Aside from personnel, technology accounts for another important aspect of Treasure Dental Studio. Jeff tells me it's now possible to use computer-aided design camera technology to create a crown model for a person's mouth directly from an intra-oral scan. Through the use of this technology, he and Hal are looking for ways to provide a superior product at a less expensive cost to the patient.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
