POCATELLO — An American Falls man has died after being injured in a crash involving 30 vehicles Monday morning on Interstate 86 near Pocatello. The wreck happened around 8 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Pocatello Regional Airport.
The pile-up was caused by a thick layer of fog that covered the interstate, limiting visibility, according to a statement from the Idaho State Police. Commercial and personal vehicles collided with one another causing a chain reaction.
One person was transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. According to police, this was a 66-year-old man from American Falls. He was later transferred to Utah for further medical attention and died.
The victim's identity hasn't been released yet, nor has his cause and manner of death.
Law enforcement continues to investigating the circumstances around the crash. Due to the nature and scope of the event, it will take time to analyze all the evidence, police said.
