THE INTERSECTION — There are few things in life more jarring than being smacked in the face when you least expect it. Whether it's an errant volleyball or a piece of unseen lumber, face hits will rock you to the core.
Years ago, a family member of mine was riding his bike along the Provo River Trail. He's an avid angler, so rather than watching the trail ahead, he was intently watching for fish and scoping out the site of his next fishing trip.
At one point, the trail passed under a bridge. Most cyclists could've easily passed under the bridge without hitting it, but my relative is exceptionally tall. With is eyes on the river and his forehead aligned perfectly with the bottom beam of the bridge, he collided in spectacular fashion.
I'll spare you the gory details. Needless to say, surgery was required and he still boasts a jagged scar.
The collision in this video doesn't involve any rivers, bridges or lacerations. It's more on the humorous side. Though, it reminded me of the dozens of times I've been walloped in the face by something unexpected.
What makes this face hit unique is that it's almost more of an uppercut. The barrier gate hits the scooter driver in the face and leaves him stunned for a moment. To his credit, this guy shakes off the injury and gets back on the road in impressive time.
