Eighteen-year-old Ilia Malinin romped to his second consecutive Skate America title on Saturday night in Texas, scoring 310.47 points to easily outdistance second-place Kevin Aymoz of France. Malinin landed four quads during his program on his way to the best score of his career. In the pairs competition Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel became the first German team to win a Grand Prix event since Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot, when they scored 184.23 points to edge Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud of Canada. Ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates took the lead after the rhythm dance, while Loena Hendrickx of Belgium took the lead after the women's short program. Those two events will be decided Sunday.
