ARLINGTON, Washington — Kids have been sneaking cookies since the very first cookie jar was invented in England in the 1700s. Back then, parents could only stop the crimes if they caught their children red-handed or found incriminating clues, such as chocolatey smiles or a floor covered with crumbs.
A talented child would silently remove the lid to the jar, eat the entire cookie in one bite to avoid crumbs and then delicately reorganize the cookies in the jar so that it didn't appear depleted. It was the perfect crime.
Nowadays, tech-savvy parents have leveled the playing field using security cameras to snoop on sneaky kids.
The girl in this clip deserves credit for her tenacity, as she had to use a stepladder to reach the top of the fridge. But, then she made the rookie mistake of dwelling at the scene. Rather than scarfing down the cookie and fleeing to the couch, she stood there savoring her ill-gotten gains.
I love the moment that she realizes she's been busted. She looks directly into the camera and her eyes bulge out in shock. It seems like her mom had a good sense of humor about the whole thing, thankfully, and nobody was grounded.
